Off the Beat Dining
While dining at the resorts is recommended the Rose Hall area has its share of outstanding dining experiences. Among the hotspots most often recommended by locals and experienced travelers are:
Scotchies: This is considered the definitive Jerk pit on the island and a local favorite with excellent Jerk chicken, pork and beef sausage. Careful- the hot sauce really brings the heat.
Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville: On what’s known as the ‘Hip Strip’ in Montego Bay, this is a favorite place for fajitas, pizza and, of course a Cheeseburger in Paradise.
BlueBeat: This relatively new club owned by the Margaritaville crew on the ‘Hip Strip’ has great Caribbean cuisine and is also a smooth spot to watch for celebrities, sip martinis and take in some cool jazz.
Ma Lou’s: Inside the Coral Cliff gaming lounge is this excellent Caribbean restaurant.
Pier One: A casual place for dinner, drinks and live entertainment with a panoramic view of Montego Bay where hearty steaks anchor the menu of this great family hangout. And oh, by the way, try the Drunken Scallops!
