A New Legend Among Hilton Head Island Golf Courses
After a multi-million dollar reconstruction project, The Sea Pines Resort is pleased to announce Heron Point by Pete Dye. Designed by legendary course architect Pete Dye, Heron Point is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. As the second Hilton Head Island golf course at The Sea Pines Resort designed by Dye, Heron Point lives up to its prestigious reputation with challenging new features.
Four months after Heron Point’s grand opening, the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel announced that it would be awarding Heron Point one of the highest ratings ever for a new golf course and the Excellence in New Course Design award. Heron Point’s fairways are shaped into dramatic anglesand shifting elevations, while surfaces are a mixture of sand, mulch, limestone, and different grasses that offer appealing color changes. The course features small, exacting greens, treacherous bunkering, and an artistic use of trees and water hazards- but also showcases more modern mounding and elevation changes that add to the value of every shot. Dye added lagoons and changed the contours of many existing bodies of water on the course. He also designed unique aesthetic features such as board and grass walls along some of the greens that border the water. “Heron Point was a great project,” says Dye, “a lot of fun to build and a lot of fun to play.”
