Always a great test, especially when the wind blows off the ocean (hence the name). Often used as a qualifying course for the British Open, and considered as one of the 3 best courses in Scotland to not host “The Open” (weekday lunch is included in your visitor green fee). Western Gailes GC is a fine links golf course measuring 6763 yards off the back tees. Like all Scottish links style courses, the weather plays an important part in a round of golf. When the wind blows from the southwest, the long stretch between the 6th and 13th holes is not only a trial of skill and strength but also somewhat of an endurance test. One of the clubs most famous members, Lord Brabazon, once said: "If you have the time, play just three golf courses - Western Gailes, Prestwick and Turnberry ". A well balanced par-71 course, it has two par-5's, both over 500 yards.
