This year’s Portugal Pro-Am was filled with friendly competition and awesome travel experiences. It all began at the gorgeous Lake Resort Hotel in Vilamoura, where we had our welcome cocktail reception on the patio followed by a fabulous buffet dinner full of local meats, cheeses, seafood and fresh vegetables. The practice round and second round were held at the Quinto do Lago courses but most of the golfers would agree that the best course on the itinerary was Monte Rei, located close to the Spanish border. This Jack Nicklaus designed course was a true test of golf and the service was incredible. It plays through the rolling hills of the Algarve and has a picture perfect clubhouse overlooking the 18th green. Our final three nights were spent in Lisbon at the Hotel Palacio Estoril. This hotel has a vibrant history that includes stories of Portuguese Royalty and James Bond. We had a fantastic day touring Lisbon which could be regarded as the San Francisco of Europe and a great meal at a renowned hot spot in Cascais 'Mal do Inferno'. The golfers were challenged to a windy and difficult round at Oitavos Dunes, designed by Arthur Hills and set overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on the most westerly tip of Portugal. Awards Ceremonies are always bitter sweet because all great trips must come to an end but after a fantastic dinner and lots of wine the winners were announced.
Congratulations to the Winners
Congratulations to the winning team John O’Leary (PGA Pro), Kelly Schmidt, Rory Brown and Beverly Darbyshire. Rory Brown (low amateur) and Cary Splane (low pro) played some consistent golf throughout the week to earn their individual honors. The beautiful sunny conditions in Portugal allowed for an unforgettable week of golf. On behalf of Premier Golf, we thank all the participant’s for attending this great event and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
