5 Highlights of a Dominican Republic Golf Trip

June 28, 2023
Dominican Republic

White sand beaches, crystal clear waters, and bright blue skies. There’s a lot to like about a golf getaway to the Dominican Republic, here are a few highlights to enjoy on your next winter sun trip:

1. Dining in style

You may go for the golf, but the Dominican Republic will offer one of the most exceptional and diverse culinary experiences of any destination. The quality of cuisine is built on foundations of fresh, local produce. An abundance of vibrant fruits and tropical fish, combined with natural Caribbean flair, and the finesse of highly trained and skilled chefs. The result? Food in the Dominican Republic just has more flavor.

When sampling this fine fare, you will be provided with a plethora of choice. At Casa de Campo, sample Lago’s world-class variety, watch the sunset and La Casita in La Marina, take a trip to Altos de Chavón village, and dine at Italian-inspired La Piazetta.

Puntacana Resort and Club provides breakfast at Ananí, a vibrant buffet experience, enjoy a late lunch among the palms at the Playa Blanca beach restaurant and be sure to have their famous “Boca Chica” dish (fried fresh fish with local seasonings). For dinner, try Bao for some delicious Asian-fusion cuisine. La Yola and Bamboo are both AAA Three Diamond Award-winning, with the latter the ideal spot for a special final dining experience on the island.

No trip to the Dominican Republic would be complete without a great steak, and contemporary Brassa Grill serves the best on the island, prepared on a charcoal grill and served alongside an extensive wine cellar.

If that isn’t enough to satisfy your tastebuds, enjoy freshly roasted Dominican Coffee to start each day and finish with creative cocktail menus, featuring Rum from local distilleries.

2. Variety of Excursions

If you have time during a busy schedule of golf, dining, and relaxing within luxurious tropical surroundings, then there’s plenty more to see and do in the Dominican Republic.

Take a sunset cruise on a modern catamaran, and enjoy an onboard grill (and usually a bit too much rum punch) as the sun shimmers across the Caribbean Sea and Dolphins play in the wake.

The Dominican Republic has some of the clearest waters in the world, so make the most of it with a snorkeling excursion off one of the multiple reefs, or swim with majestic Humpback whales from December through March.

Looking for something even more adrenaline-fueled? Try ziplining 400ft above the hills of El Valle, horseback ride among the sub-tropical jungle trails, or take a trip to one of the island’s many beautiful and dramatic waterfalls.

3. Exceptional Service

The one aspect of the Dominican Republic that always sets it apart, is the quality of service.

Across the resorts, you’ll find warmth and smiles accustomed to a family member, combined with military-style efficiency.

From touchdown at Punta Cana airport (PUJ), enjoy a 15min VIP whisking service, ensuring you make your afternoon tee time.

At Casa de Campo, enjoy your own personal concierge check-in, complete with a welcome drink, a cooling towel, and a private room shuttle. Enjoy the freedom of your own golf cart to explore the extensive campus throughout your stay.

The VIP departure lounge at PUJ is a destination in itself, complete with a final all-inclusive experience and even an outdoor pool for keeping cool, while you await your departure time.

4. Luxury Facilities

The Dominican Republic isn’t just designed for golfers, there are ample facilities and activities available for non-golfers too, making it the ideal destination for families to enjoy.

The pools, beaches, and villas of the finest resorts provide luxurious spots to relax in the year-round warm breeze. The private Minitas Beach Club at Casa de Campo is a highlight, offering a beachfront infinity pool, ample lounging spaces, and an exceptional lunch on the soft sand.

The Westin Puntacana surrounds a large pool, with cocktails served to sunbeds located within the water. When you’re ready for a change of scenery, stumble down onto the white sandy beach and paddle amongst the crystal clear water.

Private villas offer their own pools, and ample outdoor space, enjoy the personal maid service and optional in-home chef.

Rejuvenate at the world-renowned Six Senses spa, located in La Cana Golf & Beach Club. Play tennis, pickle ball, watersports, or relax with a little retail therapy and some of the exceptional resort stores.

5. The Golf

Ok, we couldn’t talk about one of the finest winter sun golf destinations in the world, without mentioning the golf.

Teeth of the Dog is the headline act, rated 20th on Golf Digest’s latest Top 100 list. The supporting cast at Casa de Campo is more than able, Dye Fore Links 27 holes, Chavon, Marina & Lagos 9’s offer clifftop holes and panoramic views. ‘The Links’ 18 weaves through the lush resort, and PGA Ocean’s 4, a 25-mile transfer west along the coast, provides an exceptional addition.

In Punta Cana, La Cana’s offers 27 holes; the Tortuga and Hacienda is arguably the strongest combination, but be sure to try Arricefe for some great ocean views.

Corrales Golf Course, home of the PGA Tour’s Puntacana Championship, provides oceanfront golf of the highest quality. Last but not least, there’s Punta Espada. This Jack Nicklaus course will blow you away, with the Tee Box on the second hole, one of the best views in all of golf.

What more can we say about the Dominican Republic? We just know you’ll want to return time and time again.
