A golf trip to Oregon’s dramatic Pacific coast isn’t complete without visiting the award-winning Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, offering some of the best true links courses in the US and where four of its six courses are ranked top across the entire state.
The most favored course is the Pacific Dunes, which has been cleverly designed by Tom Doak to have the area’s natural elements guide you through the 18-holes. Those who enjoy a strategic game will revel in a round on the David McLay Kidd designed course, Bandon Dunes, whereas the Old Macdonald celebrates golf course architect, Charles Blair Macdonald, with a design that almost transports you to Scotland, the birthplace of golf. There’s also Sheep Ranch, offering one mile of views across the Pacific Ocean, and Bandon Trails offers a trip through ancient woodland.
Head further inland and you’ll find a whole host of courses waiting to be tackled. In Bend, there’s Juniper Preserve (formerly Pronghorn Resort), featuring two award-winning courses with mesmerizing views of the Cascade Mountains, whereas a trip to Portland will put you in short distance of Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, the host of two championship golf courses designed by Bob Cupp.
A little further south, to the east of Eugene is the Sunriver Resort, which won the 2022 Golf Digest Editor’s Choice Award for Best in Resorts in the Pacific Northwest area. Featuring three public courses and one private, there’s a challenge for golfers of all abilities across its 63 holes.
In the desert highlands, you can visit Meadow Lakes Golf Course, which has been referred to as “one of Central Oregon’s best golf values”. The course itself offers ample fairways and large greens, with a fairly flat terrain.
