The Costa Navarino resort in Greece, with it’s four outstanding golf courses and four luxury hotels, spans nearly 7 miles of beautiful Ionian Sea coastline in Messina, where the famous Kalamata olives have been grown for centuries.
The brainchild of a Greek shipping magnate who wanted to leave a legacy and create jobs for his childhood community, this ecologically sustainable development has transformed this area into probably the finest golf resort in Continental Europe.
There are four excellent courses on the resort, all with amazing views of the sea and surrounding Kalamata olive tree lines, hills, and valleys. It’s a testament to the quality of all the golf courses that when you ask visitors to rank the courses, practically everybody lists them in different order.
The four resort hotels are all luxury, with two of them designed family-friendly (Westin and Luxury Collection Romanos) which are about 7 miles from the two resort hotels targeted for adults (The W and Mandarin Oriental).
Designed by Jose-Maria Olazabal, The International Olympic Academy GC, sits on the mountaintop with views for miles out to sea. This par 72 masterpiece features six sets of tees ranging from 4,952 to 7,000 yards, and among the best practice facilities you’ve ever seen.
Probably the most beautiful of the four tracks with waterfront holes and postcard views throughout, The Bay Course starts from the first tee box until you finish at the stately clubhouse. Just gorgeous, it’s more forgiving par 71 course by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The four sets of tees vary from 4,810 yards to 6,100 yards, making it playable for everybody.
The Hills Course is the second of the courses designed by Olazabal, the former two-time Masters Champion and Ryder Cup star. It’s big, bold, scenic and challenging, with 5 sets of tee boxes from 4,950 yards to 6,890 yards and par 72. Again, like The Bay Course, it’s designed for all playing abilities but can challenge the top professionals on any day if playing from the tips.
Perhaps the toughest challenge of all four, The Dunes Course, offers tighter fairways, demanding green complexes, and accuracy required all around the par 71 course. Seems appropriate given that the course designer, Bernhard Langer, also a two-time Masters winner, would have it no other way!
Four sets of tees range from 5,350 yards to 6,625 yards, but it plays longer because driver is not always the club of choice on the longer holes. Impeccably conditioned, this course hosts the European Legends Tour along with The Hills Course.

The W and Mandarin Oriental properties overlook historic and beautiful Navarino Bay, where a decisive 1827 naval battle was fought that helped Greece gain independence from Turkey.
Each of the hotels have front line beach access, multiple swimming pools, giant spa’s, a wide variety of dining venues, and complimentary shuttles around the different properties, golf courses and activities.
Everything is new, clean, well appointed and luxurious. Among the best features are the purpose-built Agora’s, which are outdoor markets with many shops, indoor and alfresco restaurants, open-air cinema and activities like wine tasting and concerts.
There is so much to do and see that a week long visit is almost the minimum duration to take it all in!
Our favorite pick for golf groups, there are 246 rooms, suites and villas spread across the adult-only beachfront. With more swimming pools than you can count, restaurants and bars, a watersports center, Agoura marketplace, luxury spa and gym.
Facilities are supported by an accommodating staff willing to go the extra mile. Everything you need is all here at W, although you still have access to the other resort facilities at Romanos and Westin, with complimentary shuttles.
A Luxury Collection Resort
A five-star family friendly resort adjacent to the Westin, separated by an inviting Agoura marketplace, with 321 rooms and, get this: 128 infinity swimming pools. The Romanos also houses the NBA Basketball Academy, brand new tennis facility and the Anazoe Spa.
Plus, it’s located right on the sea and has one of Europe’s most beautiful beach restaurants in Barbouni, where if you go once, we guarantee you’ll go again!
Another luxury family-friendly resort with 445 rooms and suites and 131 swimming pools, yet only steps from the beach. A kids club and daily family activity calendar, where parents can be certain their children are well looked after.
The most exclusive of the properties, this 5-star-plus resort is made up of 99 separate villas and suites built discreetly into the side of the hill overlooking Navarino Bay. This is for the more discerning crowd, who cherish their privacy and a totally serene escape from the crowd.
With private pools and over-the-top service, this property is guarded and is not normally available to guests in the other Costa Navarino resorts.
If it was just the golf courses alone that made the experience at Costa Navarino world-class, it would still rank highly anywhere on earth. But it’s the little things that make it special.
Outside of maybe a uber-private club or two in France or Spain, no courses are better maintained in Continental Europe that the four layouts at Costa Navarino. The practice facilities are first class, with new balls in perfect pyramids and groomed short game areas and practice putting greens that match the course green speeds.
There is a proper Starter on each #1 tee who tells the course story and makes sure everyone knows where the ice-cold water stations are located every three holes, and where the bathrooms are located. The golf carts are new and have all the bells and whistles imaginable, including ordering food or drink or extra golf balls from the interactive screen.
A beverage cart makes frequent rounds, and the course Marshall brings you scented cold refresher towels at different stages of the day. When you are done, the staff clean your clubs, give you more scented cold towels, and seamlessly move your equipment to tomorrow’s golf course, where they’ll be waiting for you on your golf cart.
Think of the best private country club service you’ve ever experienced, and that is what they provide daily at Costa Navarino.
Did we mention the gorgeous open-air clubhouses with views of the sea? Here again, these are unmatched facilities in Europe with great service and excellent, fresh food. But be forewarned, a post round drink or clubhouse lunch tends to stretch into the afternoon because people don’t want to leave. A week of golf at Costa Navarino is as good as it gets. Make the trip, it’s certainly worth it!
Premier Golf is delighted to offer a superb week-long package to Costa Navarino that includes four wonderful days of golf and plenty of free time to enjoy the fabulous attractions around the resort. Combine your trip with the ancient city of Athens to complete your Greek experience.
Guests can fly to Kalamata Airport about 45 minutes away, or transfer in luxury Sprinter vans about 3 hours from Athens Airport. Once they arrive at Costa Navarino, they will find endless beaches, pristine azure seas, and dry, warm sunshine almost every day of the year, with an ever-present cooling breeze off the sea.
