Located in Canmore, just 25 miles from Banff is Silvertip Golf Course, that refers to itself as being situated on the ‘roof of the world’ and has been described as ‘an extreme golf adventure.’
This is mountain golf at its roller coaster, dramatic elevation changing best. The course built within 600 acres of pristine Canadian Rockies real estate features over 600’ of elevation changes in the design by Master Golf Course Architect, Canmore-based, Les Furber.
While not well-known south of the Canadian border, Furber worked for Robert Trent Jones Sr. from 1969 -1980, when he started his own firm GDS. He went on to design the first course in the modern era in the Czech Republic in 1991 and Cuba’s first 18-hole layout.
His golf course design philosophy is perfectly aligned with the amateur player where the layout should always be in balance, playable as well as challenging and challenging but not intimidating.
There are no forced carries at Silvertip, and it is much more visually intimidating from the tees than it plays. The 4th, a 454-yard Par 4 is the signature hole with over 100’ of elevation change, the Three Sisters Mountain Range as a stunning backdrop and bunkers lining the right side of the fairway while trees guard the left.
Silvertip Golf Course gets its name from a rare type of grizzly bear that inhabits the Rockies but not the area around the course. However, various other wildlife may make an appearance during your round – so keep your eyes open!
Even non-golfers will appreciate a visit to Silvertip for the stunning views and delicious meals served at their restaurant.
