Silvertip

Alberta, Canada

Golf vacations in Canada are always authentic, and Silvertip offers a truly unique experience for every golfer. Located in Canmore, just 25 miles from Banff, Silvertip Golf Course refers to its location as the ‘roof of the world’ and has been described as ‘an extreme golf adventure.’

As part of a Canada golf vacation package, guests can enjoy world-class golf on the 18-hole course, exquisite dining at two restaurants, and exclusive resort facilities.

Silvertip is mountain golf at its roller coaster, dramatic elevation changing best. The course, built within 600 acres of pristine Canadian Rockies real estate, features over 600 ft of elevation changes.

Designed by Canmore-based Master Golf Course Architect, Les Furber, the course is perfectly aligned with the amateur player, offering a balanced layout, playability, and challenge without intimidation. As part of a Canada golf vacation package, Silvertip should be on your radar.

What Makes Silvertip Golf Club So Special?

Silvertip Golf Resort is one of those rare golfing destinations where the club itself is as memorable as the course. Perched above the town of Canmore, right at the edge of the Canadian Rockies, it is not considered to be a traditional members club but is instead more of a resort that is built around to maximize enjoyment from the landscape and remoteness of the region.

The club was established in the early 1990s (opening officially in 1992), during a time period when Canada’s mountain golf clubs were becoming a premium tourist draw. The clubhouse architecture is deliberately oriented towards the mountains, with large windows and open viewing areas that make it easy to appreciate the landscape.

The Silvertip Experience

There are no forced carries at Silvertip, and it is much more visually intimidating from the tees than it plays. The 4th, a 454-yard Par 4 is the signature hole with over 100’ of elevation change, the Three Sisters Mountain Range as a stunning backdrop and bunkers lining the right side of the fairway while trees guard the left.

Silvertip Golf Course gets its name from a rare type of grizzly bear that inhabits the Rockies but not the area around the course. However, various other wildlife may make an appearance during your round – so keep your eyes open! Even non-golfers will appreciate a visit to Silvertip for the stunning views and delicious meals served at their restaurant.

The Course at Silvertip Golf Club

The Silvertip golf course the sole offering at the club. A single 18-hole championship layout with the routing heavily dictated by the steep mountains above Canmore. Rather than looping around evenly, the course moves in stages, climbing, traversing, and descending the cliffside to constantly shift and challenge the player.

The overall course experience is a blend of strategy and spectacle, with hazards on full display thanks to the elevated tee boxes. Scoring well requires adaptability and being able to take into account the wind when placing shots.

The course is particularly well known for its elevated par-3s that play from high tee boxes down to valley-carved greens. There is also a selection of downhill par 4s with exposed fairways that reward aggressive play and punish bad positioning.

Silvertip Golf Club: Practical Information

Silvertip Golf Resort is open to the public, meaning visitors are able to play on the course, but access is managed more like a premium resort. Green fees vary from $100 to $150,+ depending on season (summer is always more expensive than the shoulder season). Advanced booking is recommended and is basically required for the summer season. The dress code is standard for a golf resort: collared shirt, tailored red golf shorts, trousers, or skirts, and soft-spiked golf shoes are recommended.
