Arabella Country Estate

Hermanus, South Africa

The Pete Mattovich design at Arabella is in one of the most diverse environmental areas in the world. The Estate is part of the 100,000-hectare UNESCO Site that is the Kogelberg Biosphere – home to some of the most complex biodiversity on our planet.

The golf course routing runs along the edge of the Bot River Lagoon, home to the elusive Blue Crane – the Club’s logo. The Par 5 8th is considered the Signature hole as it looks like the green is literally cut into the lagoon. The coast location is enhanced with stunning vistas of the Kogelberg Mountains in the background.

Since opening the design has consistently been ranked in South Africa’s Top Ten Courses. It was the host venue of the Nelson Mandela Invitational from 2000-2006 when it was renamed the Gary Player Invitational until 2008.

The on-site hotel features luxurious accommodations and fine dining accompanied by an outstanding collection of South African wines but the real stand out is their rejuvenating spa and exclusive treatments featuring local African products. Be sure and enjoy the first-ever African Rainforest Experience – an exclusive custom 2-hour treatment featuring water and steam elements supported by local products.

Arabella & Hermanus Area

Located only 90 minutes from Capetown this section of the shore is referred to as The Whale Coast and during certain times of the year whale watching is a must-participate activity.

Exclusive to the area is what they refer to as fynbos – areas that exhibit an exceptional degree of biodiversity and endemism – it is the smallest of the world’s six identified floral kingdoms and has about 80% of the plant species of South Africa within it.

The fynbos here comprise over 3,500 species of marine life and 1,800 flora species – 77 of which are found nowhere else in the world.

The fynbos is a very important element that is woven into the culture of the region. So important it is incorporated into Arabella’s tagline – Arabella – home to fynbos & fine living.
