Apes Hill

Sitting proudly at the highest point of Barbados in the Caribbean, and 1,000ft above sea level, Apes Hill is a golfing haven waiting to be explored. As golf resorts in Barbados go, Apes Hill has one of the best courses in the Caribbean, with an abundance of highlights creating a spectacular vacation.

The resort is home to an 18-hole Championship grade course that fully embraces the highs and lows of the rolling landscape, as well as world-class practice facilities, a pro shop, and a brand new bar.

The Apes Hill golf course offers views across the island, from the western Caribbean Sea shoreline to the eastern Atlantic coast. While very playable for all skill levels, the layout is a true test of your game, with undulations, exquisite green complexes, and tactical bunkering.

The par 3 16th ‘Cave Hole’ is the ultimate photo spot, with the green backed by a dramatic arch formation in the rockface. Off the course, guests can look forward to luxury private villa accommodations, accompanied by relaxing pools, leisure activities, and the island way of life. Apes Hill is an excellent stop on any Barbados golf tour.

Why Apes Hill Stands Out From the Crowd

Set above the west coast of Barbados, Apes Hill Golf Club enjoys a unique location supported by cool trade winds, panoramic sea views, and a lush tropical landscape. The position of the course high above the coast allows for a spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea and a panoramic view of the island of Barbados.

Originally opened in 2000, the course at Apes Hill catches the interest thanks to its thoughtful design and playability. In 2022, the course underwent a major redesign by the legendary architect Ron Kirby with a focus on sustainability, strategy, and maximising the bounty of natural views.

The Course at Apes Hill Golf Club

Apes Hill Golf Course is a championship-level 18-hole layout that uses elevation and natural ridgelines to shape nearly every shot. The course rewards thoughtful strategy and the right application of power to navigate trickier obstacles. There are tons of wide fairways, narrower landing areas, and subtly contoured greens that can trip up reckless playing. The elevation provides a constant cooling breeze, which adds both comfort and complexity to this warm, tropical course.

The course has risk-reward opportunities woven throughout, and multiple tee-off options make it approachable to golfers of all skill levels. Apes Hill centers around its major championship course, but there are plans to add additional golf experiences and practice areas in the future.

Apes Hill

Apes Hill

The 19 holes at Apes Hill are some of the most spectacular you will ever play. Geographically Apes Hill was always blessed, with the natural contours of Barbados’ spine mountains, sitting over 1,000 feet above the nearby ocean. The natural jungle vegetation and density of Palms add to the exotic drama when walking the fairways.

When Jeff Potts (an old Pete Dye associate) and Chris Cole designed the course, latterly updated by Ron Kirby, they maximized the typography and vistas, while providing a layout befitting its surroundings. Long sweeping par 5’s, dogleg par 4’s with significant undulations, and picturesque par 3’s combine for an unforgettable round you’ll be desperate to repeat.
