The Canadian Rockies are full of towering mountain backdrops everywhere you play. There are jagged peaks, glaciers, and pine-covered slopes straight out of a postcard. The Rockies are one of the few places where the backdrop is as much of an attraction as the golf. 

Many of the best courses, like Banff Springs and Jasper Park, are located within National Parks, which means there is no urban sprawl, tranquil fairways, and an immersive experience that can’t be found at busy resorts. It’s very common to see wildlife at these parks, including elk, deer, Bighorn sheep, and even bears.

The Rockies are also home to some incredible natural water features. There’s a bounty of bright turquoise glacial rivers, alpine lakes, and water hazards on courses that are just natural extensions of the landscape. 

If you’re based in Banff, exploring the surrounding national park is one of the core activities you can engage in alongside your golf. There is an absolute ton of activities to do here, you can ride the Banff Gondola up Sulphur Mountain, walk around the glacier-fed Lake Louise, visit Moraine Lake (one of the most photographed spots in Canada), or soak in the Banff Upper Hot Springs.

In the Kananaskis region, the scenery is more wild and less built up than Banff, including driving the famous Highway 40, spotting local wildlife, or walking along any of the many lakeside trails like Barrier Lake.

If you choose to travel from Banff to Jasper Park, you can travel down one of the most scenic routes in the world: the Icefields Parkway. It runs across countless glacier-fed rivers and waterfalls, stopping at key landmarks like the Athabasca Glacier.

The Rockies aren’t just scenic, they are immense in size. There’s a plethora of golfing experiences to choose from that are the same but also very different. You’ll see towering peaks, glacier-carved valleys, and snowy mountains even in the summer, as well as constant elevation changes. 

The Rockies are also in the unique position of being a true wilderness golf adventure while having all of the comforts that a resort can bring, including excellent food and incredible service.

Finally, the Rockies are one of the only locations where travelling between the courses is part of the experience. You’ll be treated to the primal, glacial landscape that dominates the scenery just going from one course to another, as well as get the chance to visit small alpine towns and cross high mountain passes. 

The peak season for the Canadian Rockies is between mid-June and mid-September. This is the time of year that’s the perfect sweetspot for almost anything; all the major courses are open, daylight hours are longer, temperatures are comfortable (typically 15–28°C), and all the mountain scenery is clearly visible.
