The Green Monkey opened in 2004 to much acclaim, and rightly so. Utilizing the land of an old limestone quarry, the layout truly is unique, with sheer drops and cliff faces surrounding and forming part of many holes.
Tom Fazio designed the course to allow many of these elevated vantage points to include views of the azure Caribbean Sea in the distance. Immaculate conditioning, small water hazards, and extensive bunkers complete this unforgettable golfing experience.
Tom Fazio’s first creation outside of the U.S., the Country Club is a golfing paradise. Combining lush fairways, multiple lakes and open, sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea, the Country Club is 7,060 yards of Caribbean treasure.
The open fairways, protected only by the water hazards and limited bunkering make for a relatively stress-free round off the tee, however, the lack of protection from the strong trade winds can create a real unforeseen challenge.
Originally opened in 1961 as the sole 18-hole course on the property, the ‘Old Nine’ was created during the 2004 refurbishment, with half of the original holes now forming part of the new Country Club course.
Meandering through the mahogany groves of the Sandy Lane estate, the 3,345-yard course is ideal for a quick round or to make a 27-hole day. Tight fairways, small greens, and immaculate conditioning ensure a strong and enjoyable test.

A short drive from nearby Holetown on the pristine west coast of the island, Apes Hill is an ideal base to explore. With Royal Westmoreland nearby and Sandy Lane just south of Holetown, the finest golf in Barbados can be accessed with ease.
Enjoy the paradise beaches of the Caribbean coastline, try the local restaurants and rum bars of Holetown and Spieghtstown, or travel south to the capital city of Bridgetown to get a feel for the local culture. All of these hotspots and Barbados Grantely Adams International Airport (BGI) are within 30 minutes of Apes Hill, allowing for a laid-back, island-style vacation.

The club is just a few minutes north of Holetown, the island’s secondary urban hub. Many visitors arrive via the ABC Highway or Highway 1. Sandy Lane offers private transfers for guests.
Playing at Sandy Lane depends on which course you’re choosing. The Green Monkey is one of the most exclusive golf spots in the world. However, the Country Club and Old Nine are accessible to the public.
Green fee costs are around $300 for the Country Club, $100 for Old Nine, and $4,000 for Green Monkey. Guests get discounts, especially for Green Monkey, where the fee goes to $400.
The club is strict about the dress code; gentlemen are required to wear collared polo shirts, tailored trousers or golf shorts, and hats must be worn with the peak facing forward. For ladies, the dress code is similar: collared shirts, with skirts, tailored trousers, or shorts. Soft spikes are mandatory.
