Pearl Valley Resort

Located in the Western Cape the Pearl Valley Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course on Val de Vie Estate opened in 2003 to rave reviews with an exhibition match between him and South Africa’s own, Gary Player.

The layout situated on a 500-acre estate in the Cape Vinelands area is visually stunning. The brilliant white sand bunkers and verdant fairways are in sharp contrast to the purple-hued Simonsberg and Drakenstein Mountain Ranges that serve as a backdrop.

The Audubon-certified design is mostly level with the four Par 3s and four Par 5s, all playing in different directions. This is to ensure that with the northwesterly prevailing breezes in the winter, and the southeasterly prevailing breezes in the summer, the course is challenging year-round.

The venue has served as the host to the historic South African Open three times in 2007, ’08, and ’09, the tournament celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010.

The course is known for its strategic bunkering and clever use of water features, including five sparkling lakes and a variety of creeks that transverse the routing. The Par 5 5th has a pesky creek that crosses the fairway no less than three times on the way to the green.

The Val de Vie is considered South Africa’s most secure luxury estate in the Paarl-Franschhoek Valley, the heart of the country’s wine-producing region.
