2018 Ryder Cup - Le Golf National - Premier Golf

2018 Ryder Cup

Le Golf National

2018 Ryder Cup

For only the second time in Ryder Cup history the matches will be staged in continental Europe in France at Le Golf National near Paris. The first time was at Valderrama Golf Club in Spain in 1997.

The Le Golf National complex is located 20 miles southwest of Paris near the Palace of Versailles in the suburb of St.-Quentin-en-Yvelines so Ryder Cup fans can watch world-class golf with easy access to all the wonderful sights, museums, attractions and restaurants in Paris.

Enhancing the appeal are convenient possibilities to visit famous nearby regions like Bordeaux and Biarittz and the D-Day landmarks in Normandy and Brittany.

Heading the list of amazing sights in Paris are the Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, Arc-de Triomphe, Champs-Elysee, Notre Dame, Musee d’Orsay, Montmarte and Sacre-Coeur Basilica. The restaurant choices are numerous and enticing with selections like Le Jules Verne (400 feet up the Eiffel Tower) and Georges (at the top of the Centre Pompidou) which have awesome views of the city. Paris is a culinary paradise with 70 Michelin starred restaurants, including 10 with the coveted 3-star designation such as world-renowned Le Meurice and L’Arpege.

Not to be missed, of course, is the spectacular Palace of Versailles, located just minutes from Le Golf National, the ultra-luxurious chateau that was the seat of political power in the Kingdom of France from 1682, when Louis XIV moved the royal court from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in 1789. With its magnificent gardens, stunning chandeliers, elegant appointments and artwork in the Hall of Mirrors and, Versailles is brimming with history and artistic inspiration.

The Ryder Cup 2018 matches will be contested on the L’Albatros Course, which is consistently ranked in Europe’s Top 10 courses.

Designed by Hubert Chesneau and von Hagge Associates, the 7,315-yard course opened in 1990. It’s a regular stop on the European Tour.

Combining the traditional feel of a links course with few trees and target golf, L’Albatros was built to a TPC-style model with exaggerated man-made undulations and spectator mounding.  It has fast, big and bold well-protected greens, vast undulating fairways and links-style bunkers. The course offers numerous risk/reward opportunities with dogleg holes, domed greens, marsh zones, bunker complexes and streams.

Unlike many French courses, L’Albatros has water flowing through the heart of it, especially on the finishing holes. Water comes into play on holes 15, 16, and 18, which is expected to create dramatic finishes in the matches.

“Those last four or five holes are going to create incredible drama,” says former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley.

Organizers are expecting around 65,000 spectators each day at Le Golf National, which is designed to handle major tournaments and accommodate large crowds.

Ryder Cup 2018, with its decided French flair, will give visiting fans an unparalleled opportunity to be up close and personal at one of the great spectator events in sports and immerse in the French good life of exquisite cuisine, fine wines and amazing sights.

Don’t miss attending Ryder Cup 2018. It will be “magnifique” in so many ways.
