Top 7 Reasons You Should Visit Trump Turnberry Golf Resort on Your Next Golf Trip

Recently purchased by Donald Trump, Turnberry is one of the world’s most spectacular and memorable golf resorts and should be at the top of all golf bucket lists. The Trump Resort Collection has embarked on an enhancement program for the resort. Here are the top 7 reasons you should make Turnberry Golf Resort your next golf trip destination:

Two Championship Golf Courses – The Ailsa course is more than an Open Championship venue. Yes, the fact that there have been exciting Open Championship tournaments held here is a part of the allure but this golf course is special. People who have played the Ailsa course never forget the back drop of the Ailsa Craig nestled on the Firth of Clyde. Then there’s that famous lighthouse overlooking the old ruins of Robert the Bruce’s Castle. Who would have thought something so simple could become so iconic? Visitors shouldn’t forget to play the Kintyre course designed by Donald Steele, which is a must play even though it’s overshadowed by its more famous neighbor.

The History – Turnberry has been capturing the hearts of its guests since 1906. In fact, much of the past at Turnberry doesn’t even involve golf. The hotel used to be a train station hotel where out-of-towners could hop off and be at their destination in seconds. It’s also difficult to imagine the Ailsa course being used to harbor tanks and fighter planes, but that’s what was done during both World Wars. As for the golf history, Turnberry was the site of the famous “Duel in the Sun” in 1977 between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus. It’s fascinating that nearly every Open Championship Turnberry has hosted ended up in a phenomenal finale.

Resort Activities – It’s nice to mix things up a little on a golf trip. Don’t you think it’s important to learn how to shoot clay or call falcons from afar to rest on your shoulder? Turnberry offers a number of intriguing and fun activities including: Off-road 4×4 driving, Archery, Quad biking, Falconry, Riding, Shooting, and Teambuilding.

Fantastic Lounging areas – Turnberry is one of the best places to “take in” the atmosphere and live in the moment. Imagine savoring a single malt and watching the sunset over the Firth of Clyde and the Ailsa course while discussing that days round with your playing partners. Trust us, it’s an amazing and memorable experience.

The Arran Course and Pitch & Putt –  Sometimes you just don’t want to take a round seriously.  Playing the Arran Course is a great way to warm up your game for the big time. Let’s not forget about the cute pitch and putt course on the lawn if front of the hotel. This little gem should be used for settling bets or practicing your short game. It’s free and the dress code is somewhat relaxed so take advantage of this fun experience. It has been renovated and refurbished by Trump.

Excellent Cuisine – All of Turnberry’s restaurants exceed expectations with magnificent settings and superb food. Visit the elegant Chef’s Table for a gourmet style meal or the 1906 restaurant for fantastic French cuisine. For a light post round meal, stop by the Grand Tea Lounge for a cup of tea and a delicious sandwich. The Ailsa Bar & Lounge, which is equipped with HD TV’s, is the perfect place for a late night pint or single malt.

The Spa at Turnberry – Golf is our favorite sport but it wears you out mentally and physically. The Spa at Turnberry should be on your agenda if you’re planning on playing more than 4 rounds of golf on your trip. It’s a great spot to relax, rejuvenate and loosen your muscles before hitting the links the next day.
