Play ‘The Royals’ during the Open Championship

The short stretch of coastline labeled ‘England’s Golf Coast’ is home to some of the UK’s most iconic golf courses, and England’s best.

Over the 50 miles of beaches and estuaries running from the cultural city of Liverpool to the quaint seaside town of Lytham St Annes, you can experience three Open Rota venues and a plethora of top-rated links courses.

This small peninsular in England’s Northwest includes three of England’s most famous Open courses, dubbed ‘The Royals’;

Royal Liverpool, known affectionately as Hoylake, is home of the 2023 Open Championship. Rory McIlroy will be looking to repeat his memorable 2014 victory, and claim his second Open Championship crown.

Royal Birkdale is one of the most popular Open venues for players and spectators alike. Jordan Spieth claimed an epic win here in 2017, and ‘The Concession’ took place on these fairways, when Jack Nicklaus famously conceded a put to Tony Jacklin to tie the 1969 Ryder Cup.

Royal Lytham & St Annes, the final stop along this iconic shoreline, dates back to Bobby Jones’ win in 1926. Legends of the game including Gary Player, Seve Ballesteros (twice), and Ernie Els have won The Open here, a nod to the timeless quality of the layout. It is touted that The Open will return here in 2026, to poignantly mark the centenary of Bobby Jones’ victory.

Alongside the Open Rota venues are Formby Golf Club and Hillside Golf Club, two spectacular courses rated in the UK top 100, that offer their own unmissable character and charm.
