The Open Championship 2024

The 152nd Open at Royal Troon

07/14/2407/21/24

The Open Championship, often referred to as simply ‘The Open’, holds the title for the oldest golf tournament in the world. Played since 1860 on iconic links courses around the country from the Scottish Highlands to England’s Royals and Northern Ireland, this international major championship is not one to miss.

Held every July, The Open (or the British Open as it is often incorrectly referred to) is the fourth and final major tournament of the year, making it a key event in the golfing calendar. The worthy host venue of The 152nd Open Championship 2024 is Royal Troon in Ayrshire.

As one of the most prestigious men’s competitions in the world, The Open attracts a huge number of spectators across the tournament week every year, with millions applying for Open tickets.

One of the most exciting aspects of this tournament is that it’s open to both amateur and professional golfers, with a small number of the world’s leading amateurs playing the tournament by invitation or qualification. Followed globally by millions of fans, The Open Championship is a true icon in the golfing calendar, and our Open golf packages can help put you at the center of the action.

What makes The Open so special?

The Open, the oldest and most prestigious championship, has seen the best golfers in the world compete against the challenge of links golf for more than 150 years. Eight professional players met in Prestwick beginning in 1860 to decide who would be the Champion Golfer.

The Challenge Belt, valued £25 at the time, was to be awarded to the victor. The first presentation of the Claret Jug didn’t occur until 1873. At The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the historic Claret Jug is now always on exhibit in the clubhouse.
