Normally everyone’s favorite and one of the world’s best links, Royal County Down GC is set in the ocean dunes beneath the Mountains of Mourne. Whenever you think of great sums of money being spent on golf course development, think of Royal County Down and the four gold pieces that Old Tom Morris was paid to lay out this classic links, which he did in one day! Situated along the shores of The Irish Sea, the setting is absolutely beautiful, and the links is a classic. The dunes are high and covered with gorse and high grass, and there are no less than five holes beginning with blind tee shots. The course starts with a par 5 and finishes with the 18th, a par 5 with no less than 23 bunkers. There are elevated tees, fast greens, loads of bunkers, water hazards (on a links?), long par 3's, short par 3's, and gorse. Many consider Royal County Down to be the best links course in the world, and it is ranked #6 in the Golf Magazine World Top 100.
