How to Plan your Portugal Golf Trip

Planning golf trips to Portugal comes down to a few key decisions:

The Algarve is ideal for golfers looking for a wide choice of courses, luxury resorts and mild weather. Lisbon suits golfers who want to combine championship golf with city and coastal experiences, while Porto and Northern Portugal offer a quieter alternative with distinctive courses and landscapes.

If you’re deciding between the country’s two most popular golf regions, the differences between Algarve and Lisbon golf can help you choose the right destination for your group.

Current Premier Golf Portugal itineraries are built around 7 nights, with packages ranging from 4 to 7 rounds depending on the destination. This gives golfers the flexibility to focus on one region or build a wider itinerary.

The best time for a Portugal golf holiday depends on the region and the type of trip you want. Spring and autumn offer comfortable temperatures for golf, while the Algarve is a popular choice for winter breaks. If you’re looking for warmer weather and long days, summer offers plenty of sunshine, although temperatures can be higher.

For golfers planning golfing breaks in Portugal, consider the region, expected weather conditions and whether you want to prioritise warmer temperatures, longer days or quieter courses.

A Portugal golf holiday gives you plenty of opportunities to explore beyond the fairways. In the Algarve, golfers staying near resorts such as Quinta do Lago or Vale do Lobo can visit the dramatic coastline around Carvoeiro, including Algar Seco and Benagil Cave. Faro Old Town is another worthwhile stop, offering historic streets, cultural attractions and access to the Ria Formosa lagoon.

The experience of combining golf with time off the course is also highlighted in a Portugal golf tour diary, which takes in destinations including Vilamoura, Lisbon and Sintra.

In Lisbon, combine rounds at courses such as Dunas Course or West Cliffs Golf Course with the city’s historic and cultural attractions. Experience live Fado music in Alfama, visit the Castle of São Jorge for panoramic views, or take a day trip to the fairytale palaces of Sintra. The coastal town of Cascais and the dramatic cliffs of Cabo da Roca are also worth visiting, adding plenty of variety to a Lisbon golf tour.

Portugal offers a long golf season, although conditions vary between regions and seasons. The Algarve is particularly popular for winter golf thanks to its mild climate, while Lisbon is generally warmer and drier from spring through autumn. During the warmer months, temperatures can reach around 25–30°C (77–86°F), particularly in the Algarve.

Cost depends on the region, courses, accommodation and number of rounds. Current Premier Golf golf packages in Portugal start from $3,843 for a 7-night, 5-round Lisbon itinerary, rising to $4,445 for a 7-night, 7-round tour of Porto and the North. The Algarve itinerary starts from $4,050 for 7 nights and 4 rounds.

Every Premier Golf golf trip to Portugal can be tailored to your requirements, so your itinerary can reflect the courses, accommodation and experiences you want.

Portgual Golf

Oitavios Dunes and West Cliffs are stunning courses and in great shape. Monte Rei is a great layout but the course is in bad shape, seem to have lost their fairways. Dom Pedro old Course is a classic but super tight.
