Glasgow Golf Club at Killermont is the eighth oldest club in the world having been founded in 1787. The club has a second course, Glasgow Gailes, a true links course which is 35 miles away near Troon. Glasgow Gailes adjoins Western Gailes GC and is a true championship test and is normally used as one of the Open Championship Qualifying courses. It exists on its own as a separate club as well as being a sort of annex for the main club. It is no coincidence that the word “gailes” appears in the name of this course. If you happen to be on the course on a typical windy day you will be in conditions that send even the most talented golfers’ ball astray. However, “Gailes” is known to have some of the best putting surfaces in all of Scotland, and one of the most elegant and traditional old clubhouses on the west coast.
