Located in north-eastern Scotland, Aberdeen is a golfing haven. Aberdeen golf clubs benefit from their exceptional location within Scotland’s cultural hub, providing an abundance of activities to enjoy and places to visit, such as sightseeing tours, boat trips, and coastal walks.

There are many great golf courses in Aberdeen, including Trump International, which is a highly acclaimed resort and championship links course. Plus, of course, the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, which is recognized as the sixth oldest course in the world. In fact, it’s home to several exceptional links golf courses, and benefits from being just a short drive from St Andrews.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1

  • Drive/Transfer from Edinburgh or Glasgow Airport, arrive in Aberdeen, and check into the Malmaison Hotel.

  • Take a leisurely walk around this city before dinner at the Brasserie.

Day 2

  • Your first day of golf will be spectacular, Cruden Bay Golf Club is an old-style links, formed by the land. Certainly not how a modern-day course architect would design a course, and that is its charm. Similar to St Andrews, it is full of unique features and memorable holes.

  • The welcoming local clubhouse will be required for a post-round debrief, a perfect introduction to Scottish golf.

Day 3

  • Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, on the northern edge of the city, has one of the best front 9’s in all of links golf. The holes weave through the natural dues alongside the shoreline. The coastal setting, with views over the north sea, means the course is susceptible to the elements.

  • Whatever the weather you’ll find this historic course, founded in 1780, a breathtaking and memorable experience.

Day 4

  • Golf at Trump International Golf Links, beautifully set amongst the coastal dunes, this modern interpretation of a classic link’s is a masterpiece. Backed by a beautiful, immaculate clubhouse and service experience, this is an excellent contrast to more traditional locations in the area.

This vibrant region combines world-class golf with natural beauty, lively city life, and excellent accommodation. Along Scotland’s northeast coast, the skies are expansive, the light is crisp, and the air is refreshing. Offering something for every level of golfer, each Aberdeen golf course presents its own unique challenge amidst some of the finest scenery in the region. Here are our top two picks:

Royal Aberdeen Green

Royal Aberdeen Golf Club

This historic course dates back to 1780, making it the sixth oldest golf club in the world. Its front nine is widely regarded as one of the finest in Scotland, weaving through classic links terrain with coastal views. The back nine offers a flatter landscape, featuring blind shots and challenging green complexes that keep players on their toes.

Dunes at Trump International Aberdeen

Trump International Golf Links

Located on the Menie Estate, a protected area of scientific interest, this course offers a striking blend of drama and design. Stretching over 7,400 yards, the course was crafted by Martin Hawtree with input from Trump on the 651-yard par-5 18th, where eighteen bunkers guard a demanding final tee shot.

Why Aberdeen is one of Scotland’s top golf destinations

Often overlooked in favour of St Andrews, Aberdeen is one of Scotland’s finest hidden gems for golf. Nestled against dramatic coastal landscapes, the region boasts world-class links courses that perfectly complement the land’s natural contours. With sweeping sea views, rolling fairways, and layouts that both challenge and inspire, golf courses near Aberdeen, Scotland offer an experience like no other.

Aberdeen’s golf clubs are a seamless blend of rich tradition and modern elegance. The stunning dunes of Aberdeenshire stretch across 165 miles of coastline, some reaching heights of up to 100 feet. Within this remarkable sandscape lie some of the world’s most challenging links courses, crafted by legendary golf architects such as Old Tom Morris, James Braid, and Dr. Martin Hawtree.

Beyond the fairways, Aberdeenshire is a treasure trove of beauty and history. Visit Balmoral Castle, the Royal Family’s summer retreat, or explore grand estates, indulge in gourmet dining, and enjoy the quiet luxury of the northeast. Aberdeen also offers a variety of attractions, from the Aberdeen Maritime Museum to the scenic beauty of Balmedie Beach.

Malmaison Aberdeen

Best accommodation for golf in Aberdeen

Ann Mabry, Managing Director

I’d recommend the Malmaison Aberdeen. It’s right on the harbor, so you get those great waterfront views but still feel close to everything the city has to offer. After a day out, whether you’re hitting the golf course or checking out the sights, you can kick back in style. They’ve got a cool brasserie with tasty modern Scottish dishes, and if you’re after something chill, the Chez Mal Bar is perfect for grabbing a drink and relaxing without any fuss.

“Royal Aberdeen is all about smart, accurate golf, power won’t get you far here. Expect firm fairways, deep bunkers, and plenty of wind, so keep your shots low and controlled. The greens can be tricky with some sneaky breaks, so take your time lining up putts. “
