Located just moments from Sotogrande in San Roque, La Hacienda Links Golf Resort is a prime destination for a golf vacation in Spain. Comprising two exceptional layouts, the Links and Heathland, La Hacienda Links Golf Resort offers 36 holes of elite-level golf.
The Heathland Course, designed by former Ryder Cup player Dave Thomas, offers a Par-72 layout comprising natural landscapes and varied terrain. While sea views are guaranteed, the course also combines narrow fairways with large lakes and a valley. It’s the perfect complement to the Links course, delivering challenging play for all skill levels.
Previously known as Alcaidesa Golf, both courses have undergone substantial renovations, transforming them into some of the best golf courses in Andalucia, and Spain.
The Links is the headline act, and one of the few courses in the region to run along the coastline. This part-links, part-heathland course provides spectacular views over the Mediterranean Sea and the Rock of Gibraltar, alongside exceptional play, of course. Redesigned in 2021 by Kurtis Bowman, it has sustainability and playability at its heart, taking this San Roque golf course to a whole new level.
The Heathland course sits further inland, among the Andalucia hills, with a number of stunning holes carved into the region’s natural ravines and gullies. Providing exceptional elevated views and a connection to nature, the Heathland makes for a worthy 36-hole offering.
A new 5* Fairmont ‘La Hacienda’ hotel is due to open in 2024 and is set to become one of the leading luxury golf destinations in Europe. Facilities will include a range of bars, restaurants, and a private beach. A large pool, spa, and fitness club will complete the offering.
Guests can also choose the exclusive 5* SO/Sotogrande hotel, an elegant and stylish property located nearby, in the Andalucian hills.
La Hacienda Links Golf Resort in southern Spain is one-of-a-kind, offering the only links-style course in the region. While the resort is home to two championship courses, the La Hacienda Links golf course emulates the classic links courses of Scotland and Ireland, with sandy terrain, natural undulations, and strategically placed bunkers. Although it’s a relatively young resort, La Hacienda Links has become a popular stop on many golf vacations in Spain.
Providing stunning views of the sun-drenched Mediterranean Sea, La Hacienda Links Golf Resort near Sotogrande is a true coastal club with many of the holes running along the coastline. As well as exceptional golf, players can immerse themselves in natural surroundings rich in biodiversity, with migratory birds, wild rabbits, and native flora and fauna all featuring on the courses.
Originally designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, the Links Course first opened in 1992, as one of only a few links-style courses in Europe. Offering some of the best panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea in Spain, players on this championship course can look out to the iconic Rock of Gibraltar as well as parts of Africa from many of the holes.
The La Hacienda Links Course was renovated in 2021 by Kurtis Bowman, transforming it into a modern and sustainable course. The extensive renovation included remodelling tees, greens, and bunkers, as well as redesigning many of the holes, creating one of the best courses in Spain. The Links Course runs almost 2 km along the coastline and is challenging for any player, with wide fairways, double greens, and gentle slopes towards the sea.
As the perfect accompaniment to the Links Course, the Heathland Course at La Hacienda Golf Resort is a par-72 course, located a little further inland. The course winds through the varied natural terrain, featuring several plateaus with vast views of the Mediterranean Sea. The Heathland Course offers plenty of skills testing for all players, with several holes in a valley with large lakes and narrow fairways.
Some standout holes on this course include the 4th, 6th, and 18th. The 4th hole, a par-4, is considered the most difficult on the Heathland Course, requiring incredible precision due to the length and well-protected green. The par-3 6th hole offers an elevated green and bunkers, testing players’ approach and putting skills. For strategic play, the 18th hole is a par-5 with a generous fairway, allowing big hitters to reach the green in two shots.
Opening in 2025, Fairmont La Hacienda is a beautiful, elegant new property, worthy of its 5-star rating. Relax in your large guestroom with ocean views, looking out over the Links course and the Straits of Gibraltar. Acclaimed Head Chef Benito Gómez provides a culinary experience to savor, while the spa and wellness centre offers the ideal environment to relax and unwind.
Marbella, Spain’s Costa del Sol cultural and nightlife capital, and neighboring Sotogrande have a world-renowned golf scene.
