Ardgowan Hotel: Located just 200 yards of the Old Course, the Ardgowan (Certificate of Excellence 4 star rated by Trip Advisor) is a wonderful Georgian style boutique hotel right in the middle of town. This family run hotel has 36 beautifully furnished bedrooms (classic or deluxe) with all the modern amenities including tea/coffee making facilities. Guests will enjoy sipping on a single malt whisky in Playfair’s Bar or savoring a big steak with a side of chips in the restaurant. St. Andrews University and the Town center are within walking distance of the Ardgowan, visitors won’t have to walk far to see the sites; restaurants and golf. Best of all, you can simply walk down the street 200 yards to the first tee of St Andrews Old Course. Considered one of the best values in St Andrews!

Golf Courses

Kingsbarns Golf Links: Opened in 2000, and only six miles south-east from St. Andrews, Kingsbarns Golf Links was developed by two Californians (Mark Parsinen and Art Dunkley), and designed by a third, Kyle Phillips, one of the top new architects in the business. The course was carved from farmland that sweeps majestically along the sea, between the villages of Kingsbarns and Crail. The sea figures prominently on every hole at Kingsbarns and the course (four sets of tees range from 5142-7126 yards) looks like it has been there for 200 years, although it only opened in July 2000 (there was an older 9 hole course on the site from 1793-1939).  On more than half the holes, the sea is directly in the golfer’s active frame of play, so bring a camera because this is one of the most scenic courses in the world.  Sir Michael Bonallack, Captain of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club (the R&A bought part of the course!) says, “Mere words cannot convey just how extraordinary the place is … it must be seen to be believed … and once seen it will never be forgotten.” Many travelers remark that Kingsbarns is their favorite and most beautiful links course in Scotland. Come early, the complimentary practice range and putting green are among the best practice facilities in Scotland. The course is ranked #65 in The 2015 Golf Magazine World Top 100.

Gleneagles - King's Course: Known for its superb maintenance condition (for a Scottish course), Gleneagles King's features a tough uphill first hole and two fine finishing holes, the dogleg 17th where your tee shot cannot run to the right, and the downhill 18th toward the stately hotel in the distance. In between are a series of beautiful holes that require accurate shotmaking and constant course management to navigate the ever-present trouble spots.  For years the Kings Course was site of the Scottish Open typically held the week before the British Open.

St. Andrews Jubilee: First opened in 1897, the Jubilee is the most seaward of the six courses which comprise St. Andrews Links. As a result of its location, the dunes are higher and rougher and the scale of the landscape is grander than the more landward courses. Following a partial remodel in 1989, the Jubilee became a very high-caliber links that many consider the second-best course in town.
